BOISE, Idaho – Sarah Vondra, the Fruitland woman charged in connection with the disappearance of missing boy Michael Vaughn, will remain in a state hospital pending an evaluation of her competency to stand trial.
A judge approved the verdict on Monday morning. A new status conference has been set for 20 March.
Vandra remains in the custody of the Department of Health and Welfare, as she was found unfit to continue court proceedings following a mental health assessment since early December.
Vondra has been charged with failing to report the death of Michael Vaughan, who went missing in July 2021. No other charges have been filed in the case.
In November, authorities excavated Wondra’s entire backyard but found no human remains. Recently the evidence gathered from that discovery has been sent for DNA testing. Results are pending.
