Punxsutawney Phil predicts 2023 Groundhog Day

Punxsutawney Phil predicts 2023 Groundhog Day

Despite his lack of formal meteorology training, Punxsutawney Phil provides one of the most anticipated weather forecasts of the year.

On Thursday, Phil weighed in on whether there would be six more weeks of winter or if spring would start early.

Seeing his shadow on Thursday, Phil predicted that winter would continue and spring would not come soon.

This tradition dates back 137 years. According to the data, he has seen his shadow 107 times as compared to not seeing his shadow 20 times. There is no record from 10 Groundhog Days.

In 2023, for the third year in a row, Phil saw his shadow.

Despite the pomp and circumstance surrounding Phil when he runs out of his bill, Phil’s accuracy is questionable.

In the 21st century, Phil has been accurate with his predictions less than 50 percent of the time.

Several other rodents are in the weather forecasting business, including Buckeye Chuck in Ohio and the Staten Island Chuck in New York.
