Moped rider dies after being hit by dumper in Dedham

A teen driving a moped in Dedham died Tuesday after his moped collided with a dump truck.

According to a spokesperson for the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office, at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a report of a collision between a moped and a dump truck near 21 Washington St. in Dedham.

Officials said a commercial dump truck with two occupants and a moped with two occupants were traveling in the same direction and collided with each other.

The driver of the moped, a teenage boy, was taken to Faulkner Hospital with apparent injuries. Police said he died of his injuries. The moped rider also traveled in the ambulance along with the driver, the police did not provide any update on the condition of the moped rider.

After the accident, the occupants of the dumper stayed back and cooperated with the police.

Officials are investigating the circumstances of the accident. Officials said no charges are being filed at this time and the identity of the deceased teen will be released at a later date.
