City of Detroit opens two 24-hour warming centers as extreme cold arrives

Due to the extremely cold temperatures, the city of Detroit opened two 24-hour warming centers from Wednesday morning through the weekend.

The overnight minimum temperature would be in the single digits below zero with an air chill that prompted the city to open warming centers.

They will be open from Wednesday morning, February 1, to Sunday morning, February 5.

The 24-hour warming centers are at:

  • Farwell Recreation Center – 2711 E. Wednesdays from 11 a.m. Outside Dr.
  • Patton Recreation Center – 2301 Woodmere, Wednesdays through 8 a.m.

The city said branches of the Detroit Public Library would be available as respite centers during operating hours and three warming centers would provide respite overnight.
