Senior guard Kyle Layton led the Spartans with 11 points during that explosive first quarter. He knocked down three 3-pointers in the first eight minutes. Still working his way out of a torn ACL, Layton led all scorers with a game-high 15 points and finished with four 3-pointers.

“My comrades found me in the open and I had to gun them down,” he said. “The win feels good. We still have one thing to do. So on to the next one.

Freshman Jacoby Sharp led the Titans with 12 points, and seniors Khaleel Hughley and Steven Jones scored nine points and eight, respectively.

โ€œAgainst Vestavia Hills (on February 3), we didn’t make our free throws and didn’t rebound well. I thought our guys responded well to playing the region tournament and again tonight,โ€ said Mountain Brook head coach Tyler Davis.

Davis praised the depth of his team.

“I think it’s a good thing, if we’re going to play a game in the next 48 hours, we have 15 guys who can roll,” he said. “It gave some guys who don’t play a lot of minutes a chance to get in there and play more than usual.”
