HONOLULU (KHON2) – On Sunday, January 29th at approximately 2:08 am, Big Island Police responded to an accident in Kona.
When police arrived at the scene, they determined that a convertible was driving south and nearly struck a pedestrian who was crossing the highway in a marked crosswalk.

According to police, the Nissan lost control, hit several large boulders and rolled several times before the car came to a stop.
Police said the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, was thrown from the car more than 300 feet.
The 31-year-old Wisconsin man was then transferred to Kona Community Hospital in critical condition.
He was later taken to Queens Medical Center on Oahu for further treatment.
