BOISE, Idaho – Boise State this month cut four full-time and two part-time positions in the school’s human resources department. decision, reported at the first Idaho StatesmanAccording to Director of Media Relations, Mike Sharpe, the move was in an effort to save money.

Sharp says the Idaho Board of Education has tasked all state agencies with prioritizing funding, which is part of the reason for the decision.

“Unfortunately, with some cost-cutting measures involving some individuals we were able to save $275,000,” Sharp told Idaho News 6.

Sharp says that every action is important and decisions like this are not taken lightly. But being a state agency, the university has an obligation to taxpayers to be as fiscally responsible and efficient as possible. He says there are still 45 jobs in the school’s human resources department and more than 5,000 people employed across the school.

The university says the cuts are not expected to impact students in the classroom.

“Every bit counts,” Sharp said. I want to make sure the public is aware that there is no danger to the students as they perceive it. This is not something that will reach students in their classes.
