Nashville, Tenn. (WTVF) – Metro Police are once again asking people to lock their cars and stop leaving guns unattended.

Of the 67 guns stolen in Davidson County so far this year, 57 of them were stolen from cars — 85%, officials said.

In 2022, 1,378 guns were stolen from cars.

Metro Police said it goes hand in hand with car theft and burglary.

Thirty-three of the 60 cars stolen so far this year were easy targets because the keys were left in the car – 55% of reported cases. It is on track to follow the same trend as last year.

Police want to remind people to never leave their keys in the car, always lock their cars and never leave their guns in the car.

As of the end of June, gun safes don’t have a state sales tax, so it would be smart to get one now while they’re more affordable.
