Injured hiker rescued on ‘Ayia Loop Trail’

AIEA, Hawaii (KHON2) – The ‘Aia Loop Trail’ is a very popular and gorgeous hike here on Oahu. Many people took advantage of the new year to climb this amazing climb.

The Honolulu Fire Department said they rescued a 20-year-old female hiker who injured her ankle while making the trek.

She was accompanied by two other hikers who called 911 for help at 3:37 p.m.

HFD located the hiker and airlifted him to safety by 4:35 p.m.

HFD has provided some tips for those who want to enjoy O’ahu’s myriad hikes and trails.

Plan your hike:

  • Inform others about your plan.
  • Take a walk with your partner.
  • Gather information about the trail and estimate how long it will take to return to the trailhead.
  • Assess your capabilities.

During hike:

  • Stay on the trail

  • Avoid unnecessary risk.
  • View time.
