John Wahl, chairman of the Alabama Republican Party, was elected Friday as vice chairman of the Republican National Committee during the RNC’s winter meeting in Dana Point, Calif.
The RNC selects its vice presidents by region. Wahl will lead the southern zone.

Wahl was elected chairman of the Alabama GOP in February 2021.
Republicans continue to dominate Alabama in the 2022 election cycle, sweeping statewide races and holding nearly three-quarters of the seats in the Legislature.
“I hope the lessons we learned from our electoral successes in Alabama will help us prepare for 2024,” Wahl said.
The RNC selected Vicki Drummond of the Alabama Republican Party as the RNC Secretary.
In the most high-profile race, RNC re-elects Ronna McDaniel As party president in a tough fight for the top spot. The steering committee of the Alabama Republican Party earlier this month voted to oppose McDaniel’s re-election, passing a resolution saying the RNC needed new leadership.
