HILTON HEAD, Sc. (WTOC) – A new short-term rental ordinance will be implemented on Hilton Head Island in 2023.
According to municipal officials, the new regulations include important information that owners need to know
Hilton Head hosts information sessions for vacation rental owners throughout the month, and before we get into the specific changes you need to know about, they want you to know one key point.
“The town is here to help. We have employees, we’re going to lead them, and we want them to deliver,” said Barbara Wooster, Hilton Head Island’s Director of Revenue Customer Service.
There is a list of landlord requirements with this ordinance, but the first step will be to apply for an annual rental permit.
“We start on January 3rd, they can apply online, once the application is approved they will print it and they will have a permit.”
Such a rental permit will cost a flat fee of $250 and will be placed back into the STVR program for code enforcement. The town also wants landlords to know new details to discuss with those renting your property.
“We ask guests to be aware of noise ordinances, trash regulations and parking regulations.”
All of these will be new with the ordinance that will come into force on January 1st.
