Bangor’s winter parking ban is on hold until the first storm

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – This long stretch of warm weather means parking is still allowed on Bangor streets for the foreseeable future.

The Queen City changed its rules a few years ago regarding winter parking. Now they are waiting until the first storm of the season to impose a parking ban in the downtown area. This prohibits parking on city center streets from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. whenever the ban is in effect.

The first storm of the season also results in a city-wide parking ban. That runs from midnight to 6:00 a.m. every day until March 31.

โ€œThe biggest piece of advice I can give people, and I wish more people would take advantage of it, is go to our city website and sign up for parking alerts. It’s on the first page. Sign up for alerts, search for ‘parking’, enter your email address and we’ll send notifications for every parking ban to let people know. And every time I post a downtown parking ban, I remind people of the citywide no parking rules. So, a lot of great information about those alerts,โ€ said Aaron Huotari, Bangor City Council’s director of public works.

At the same time as the city-wide ban begins, daytime parking rules also come into force. On even days of the calendar, parking is allowed on even numbered streets. An odd numbered day on the calendar means that parking is permitted on odd numbered streets.

The city says this allows snow removal to be more efficient.
