A woman was injured Friday after being bitten by a shark near Del Mar, a city lifeguard confirmed to KTLA Scissor station KSWB.
The shark attack happened just after 10 a.m. in the Del Mar Beach area between 15th and 17th streets. Lifeguards said the shark bit the woman’s leg.
The woman and a man were swimming together in the sea when the attack took place, but both managed to reach the shore safely.
The woman was treated for injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
It is not yet known what kind of shark was involved in the attack.
Beach closure signs were posted in the area.
