2 shot dead in Mesa apartment, identified as husband, wife

MESA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) – The two people shot and killed in a Mesa apartment earlier this week were identified Thursday as husband and wife, police said. On Tuesday, just before 11:30 p.m., Mesa police received several 911 calls about gunshots at an apartment complex near Main Street and Power Road. Investigators say 48-year-old Ronnie Lazalde and his wife, 41-year-old Natishia Lazalde, were shot under a stairwell at the complex. Ronnie died on the spot, and Natishia was taken to hospital. However, he died on Wednesday morning.

Police initially said a third person had been shot, but no word on that victim was released Thursday. Detectives are still working to determine what led to the shooting. Police believe it was not a random attack, but are still trying to find the person responsible. The investigation is ongoing.
