Hoover, so. (WIAT) — The Hoover City Council voted Monday to move forward with a resolution to improve sports facilities in the city.
Mayor and Council Hoover said this is a big win for youth sports and sports tourism in the city.
The council voted unanimously to team up with Hoover City Schools to install new turf on the baseball fields. Improvements will be made at seven city campuses, including Spain Park and Hoover high schools.
Hoover City Council President John Lida said the move will only enhance the city’s investment in sports tourism.
“Giving our residents and visitors access to great parks and state-of-the-art facilities is something we’re very proud of and so this is definitely the next step in making sure we’re at the forefront of sports tourism. Youth sports here for our residents,” Lida said.
The multi-million dollar partnership also includes the construction of brand new restroom facilities. The decision now goes to the Hoover Board of Education. The meeting will be held on Tuesday at 5:30 pm
