Southwest Youth Ballet Theater will perform The Nutcracker in December

GILBERT, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) – Southwest Youth Ballet Theater has announced its 16th performance Nutcracker December 16-18 at the Higley Center for Performing Arts.

Audiences will be delighted to hear that the Chandler Symphony Orchestra will be performing alongside the 75-piece ballet company. Former Eugene Ballet company dancer Kenta Taniguchi will perform as the Nutcracker Prince and Knight.

“The addition of live music sets the Nutcracker performance apart from others in the Valley because it provides a richer experience than the live Symphony’s recorded music,” said Southwest Youth Ballet Theater President Mary Madine. Spectators are invited to come early to shop and take photos with the Sugar Plum Fairy!

Principal dancer and artistic director Yen-Li Chen will direct the performance. “This is a very classic adaptation of the ballet. The choreography and performance stay true to the original performance,” said Chen.
