Police said the driver involved in the accident at the Phoenix store was drunk

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) – A woman who was struck by a car while shopping at a Phoenix store is expected to recover, Phoenix police said.

Investigators say the man who drove his car to the dd’s Discount store near 33rd Avenue and Indian School Road was involved in a minor accident in the parking lot when he tried to speed away around 4 p.m. The driver lost control of the car, crashed into the store’s windows, hit a female shopper and crashed into the back wall of the store.

The woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The driver was also taken to the hospital because he was very drunk and his passenger was admitted as a precaution. The investigation is still ongoing.
