key facts

In an interview published on Saturday with Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia, Allen said he intends not to make more films, and instead focus on writing a novel.

“My idea, in principle, is to not make more films and focus on writing these stories, and now I’m thinking more about the novel,” he told outlets.

Allen’s representative told several outlets on Monday that the 86-year-old had “no intention of retiring” and that he “never said he was going to retire, nor did he say he was writing another novel.”

“He said he was thinking about not making films because making films that go directly or very quickly to streaming platforms is not very interesting for him, because he is a huge lover of the cinema experience,” the actor said.

main background

In an interview with Alec Baldwin in June, Allen said “a lot of the thrill” has gone from making films, and he might switch to writing Broadway plays in the future. Allen has been accused by his adopted daughter Dylan of sexually abusing her as a child, and after the #MeToo movement, the hall’s director faced intense public scrutiny over the allegations. Several big stars, including Kate Winslet, Elliot Page and Colin Firth, either regretted working with Allen or vowed never to work with him again.
