US investigates alleged fraud in Mississippi as former official pleads guilty

The US Justice Department said Thursday that the FBI and two federal agencies are investigating allegations of fraud in Mississippi, where the former head of the state’s Department of Human Services has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to misuse federal funds.

John Davis of Jackson, Mississippi, pleaded guilty Thursday and will be sentenced in February, the Justice Department said, adding that the US Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Agriculture are part of the federal investigation.
