Today’s Wordle Hints, Clues and Answer – Sunday 18th September (#456) Word of the Day

It’s finally sunshine!

Here are some fun facts about Sunday:

  • In the Western world, Sunday is considered part of the weekend. In most other places it is considered the first day of the week, although in Japan school is held Monday through Friday and in some schools on Saturday. In many countries, including the United States, Sunday is the first day of the seven-day week even though it is part of the weekend. Not at all confusing!
  • The etymology of the word Sunday is derived from Hellenistic astrology, in which there are seven “planets”: Saturn, Mars, the Sun, Venus, Mercury and the Moon.
  • Today it is sacred in the Christian faith, although its origins are pagan. This day was the day of the sun god in Roman culture. On March 7, 321, Constantine I, the first Christian emperor of Rome, declared Sunday to be the Roman day of rest (similar to Saturday in Jewish culture, although that falls on the Sabbath). The day of rest is not followed as strictly as Saturday, although “lazy Sunday” is a great thing and I highly recommend observing it regardless of your faith!
  • If you really like Sundays, consider converting to Catholicism. Saturday evening Mass is counted as Sunday Mass, and begins on Sunday, at least liturgically, on Saturday evening.
  • The Sunday papers (or often come back when people get dead tree leaves) are often the fattest of the week, with colorful cartoons and lots of extra content and specials. Sports such as American football and many television programs are often broadcast on Sunday evenings.

So, it was my first guess today Ariel after the name Little Mermaid. That character sparked some controversy in the new live-action Disney remake because the actress who plays live-action Ariel is Halle Bailey, and she’s black. I wrote about it in my Substack and made a video about it on my YouTube channel for those of you who are interested in my non-Wordle content.

My next guess has reduced the remaining 96 possible solutions to 52, which is by no means great. But what a great word, right? Odium. The definition of the word is truly unique: โ€œThe state or fact of being hated and contemptuous as a result of a vile act or reprehensible circumstance.โ€

when I hear hatred Thinking about Brandon Sanderson’s excellent fantasy epic Stormlight Archive. When I hear the phrase “Let’s go Brandon!” I’m thinking about the success of the legendary Kickstarter Brandon Sanderson.

From here, stubbornly guessing words with an “I” in the middle (even if that’s not the best strategy) followed thick And I narrowed my options down to 1. It was too easy to guess Stick next one . . . In order to win! estate!
