What is Tesla AI Day?

Tesla AI Day is the annual showcase of the latest technologies across the company’s various business units. While Tesla cars get the majority of press coverage, they have a wide range of different applications and products that they continue to develop and improve.

You can think of it like Apple’s annual release event, but with a bigger focus on what’s to come in the future. Apple announces iPhones ready to buy next week, and AI announces tech that may still be years from a full release.

Over time, Tesla’s AI became a bigger and bigger event, with a live broadcast watched by millions around the world.

Investors or potential investors are following on to discover new ways Tesla is looking to generate revenue for the company. The tech-obsessed watch to see how Tesla pushes the envelope by bringing exciting new innovations to market.

Some just watch because they know Elon Musk always puts on a show.

Regardless of the reason, we can expect Tesla AI Day on September 30, 2022 to bring some surprises and new ideas to the public eye.

What can we expect to see on Tesla AI Day 2022?

The first big clue was that AI Day was pushed back by six weeks, with the goal of getting a prototype of Tesla's human-like robot, Optimus.

Elon Musk tweeted on June 3 to announce that the date will be moved from the original planned date of August 19.

Optimus

Eyes will be peeled off to see if a glimpse of the new innovation has been offered. The project was initially announced at last year's Artificial Intelligence Day. In typical Elon Musk fashion, she arrived with some fanfare that generated mass press coverage all over the world.

A human figure came dancing on stage, and while the shiny suit and robot style movements gave the appearance of a major innovation in robotics, it soon became apparent that it was, in fact, a man in a robot suit.

However, Musk went on to explain that the vision was to create a humanoid robot capable of completing many of the mundane, repetitive, or dangerous tasks of daily life, such as picking groceries off shelves or completing routine maintenance in dangerous places.

The image accompanying the announcement on Twitter also makes way for a day when Optimus is the highlight, with two hands of robots making influencers the calling sign, the heart.

Dojo Chip

We also expect to see some new information about Tesla's Dojo chip. This is the supercomputer that will power future generations of Tesla products, which were initially announced at last year's event.

It was built from the ground up by Tesla, and focuses on "pure machine learning". This means that it is not compatible with current products on the market, but is specifically designed to power the next generation of AI-based technology.

We can expect to see more information about the practical applications of the new chip, the uses of the new processing power, and the specialization of machine learning.

robotaxy

Another ad that seems many years ahead of its time is Robotaxi. This is, admittedly, an early stage technology that Musk has stated will become a mix of "Uber and AirBnb."

The idea is that once Tesla can finally crack fully self-driving vehicles (and incredibly high regulatory hurdles can be bypassed), the option will be opened up for owners to release their cars in their downtime.

Instead of parking a vehicle on the street or in a garage all night, owners can send their car down the road to provide taxi services, generating passive income while they sleep.

It may sound like pie in the sky, but if anyone can bring it closer to reality, it's Elon Musk and Tesla.

Full Autonomous Driving (FSD) Beta

The Robotaxi update may come along with the latest in fully autonomous driving technology, which has proven controversial.

Musk initially stated that he expected to have 1 million robotics by the end of the year, but has retracted those comments to say now that he expects to have 1 million cars in fully autonomous driving (FSD) beta by the end of the year.

Either way, fully autonomous vehicles come close to reality, and we can hope to see updates to this space on AI Day.
