BERLIN (Reuters) – The mayor of Tesla (Nasdaq) told Reuters on Monday that Tesla (Nasdaq) has assured the mayor of Grunheide that its plans to operate a battery plant currently under construction in Germany have not changed.
“Tesla has put everything in the American newspaper into perspective. The plant is still under construction,” Christiani said, referring to a Wall Street Journal report last week that Tesla was temporarily halting its plans to make batteries in Germany.
Christiani also denied reports in the local newspaper RBB last week that he had taken the issue of extending Tesla’s land to use for logistical purposes off the local council’s agenda, saying it was never on the agenda.
Kristani said the automaker applied for an extension in May, and concerned community representatives were discussing it. Once these discussions are complete, the topic will come up on the agenda.
Tesla was not immediately available for comment.
