China says US electric car subsidy rules are suspected of violating WTO rules

BEIJING (Reuters) – China has said a U.S. inflation-reduction law is suspected of violating World Trade Organization rules, and will take measures to protect its legitimate rights when necessary, Chinese Ministry of Commerce spokesman Xu Juying said on Thursday.

Xu added that China will follow up and evaluate the implementation of the law.

The new law, signed by US President Joe Biden last month, eliminates federal tax credits for electric vehicles (EVs) made outside North America.
