Bags of oil located in the frames of the ship stranded in Gibraltar

Algeciras (Cรกdiz), Sep 28 (EFE).- The teams of divers have located several pockets of oil trapped in the frames of the hull of “OS 35”, stranded east of Gibraltar since the collision suffered on August 29.

This is the fuel residue that has been slowly filtering to the surface outside the ship, as explained by the captain of the port of Gibraltar in a statement.

In addition, new maintenance and repair tasks are being carried out on the anti-pollution barrier to increase its effectiveness and further reduce the appearance of future oil slicks in the sea.

Very small amounts of spillage have come out of the barrier in recent days, with minimal impact.

On the other hand, the Gibraltarian Ministry of the Environment focuses its clean-up tasks on the Seven Sisters area.

The staff of the public company GJBS, with the advice and guidance of the Ministry of the Environment and Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL), are taking care of it.

For its part, the City Council of La Lรญnea de la Concepciรณn (Cรกdiz) has indicated in a note that it maintains an operational availability service to detect and act in the event of any emergency that may arise in accordance with possible spills.

Intensive surveillance of bathing areas is maintained for the purpose of early detection of possible spills and their urgent notification to the competent territorial delegation on the matter.
