MADRID (Reuters) – Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ) has halted construction of new warehouses in Spain until 2024, Spanish news site El Confidencial said on Monday, citing unnamed company sources.
El Confidencial said the US e-commerce giant has asked its providers and partners to “wait and see” as the pandemic-driven online shopping slows.
“Our commitment to Spain remains,” Amazon said in a statement emailed to Reuters.
“In 2022, we opened new logistics stations, Amazon Fresh centers and a logistics center (in Spain),” the company said, without going into details.
Amazon said in June that it plans to add 2,000 new jobs in Spain in 2022, bringing its total salary in the country to 20,000.
